Latino, Mexican American, Hispanic, Chicano…there are so many terms! It is confusing even for people of Spanish-speaking ancestry. In this presentation, you will learn about Mexican-American ancestry, history, ethnic terminology, and values. Specifically, are Mexican Americans a migrant people or an immigrant people? How did they get here? What are their cultural values and how are they similar and different from “mainstream” culture? It will include suggestions and recommendations to effectively communicate and reach this population.
